Dear Fellow Alum and Class of 2020,
We hope this email finds you and your family well during this very difficult time.
As we continue to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Leadership Middle Tennessee and focus on our mission statement of “Inspiring Regional Leadership”, we have also been evaluating a clear vision for the upcoming year. As those who have been through LMT know, the programming and monthly sessions are the foundation of how we inspire regional leadership. For the class, one of greatest benefits of the program is the shared experience and the connection and sense of community that develops as they spend time with one another. It is the glue that creates the special bond for each class. Our alums who serve on the planning committees work hard and spend countless hours to ensure every session is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for each class.
In the 20-year history of Leadership Middle Tennessee, we have cancelled very few sessions. Every year at this time, we are preparing to graduate the current class, selecting and announcing the new class, and in July beginning to plan the programming for the incoming class. However, this year, due to the pandemic, the last three sessions have been reformatted into virtual sessions, and there is still uncertainty surrounding the ability to hold the graduation ceremony and for the class to finalize their celebratory fundraiser.
Due to the uncertainty still facing all of us, and the changing information almost daily, the Board of Directors has determined that moving forward in our traditional format would hinder the ability to plan and deliver our trademark exceptional program. Therefore, the Board has made the decision to focus forward on our mission statement and alumni development, and to defer the program for the Class of 2021. Additionally, this year’s Class of 2020 will be provided the opportunity in the spring of 2021 to fully experience the canceled sessions in Maury, Sumner and Cheatham County, host their fundraising event follow up with our traditional commencement. The LMT Class of 2020 will have the unique opportunity to graduate as the LMT Class of 2020/2021!
In order to carry out this forward focus for LMT 2021, a special committee will be created to develop and implement events and opportunities for alums and the current class to continue to connect and learn about ways to serve our region. We look forward to this opportunity to serve our alumni while preparing to resume our traditional programming in August, 2021 for the Class of 2022.
There are no words to express the gratitude we have to you, our alums, for your continued support and belief in Leadership Middle Tennessee.
